
The plate-and-frame filter press is a widely used equipment for solid-liquid separation, whose working principle mainly relies on filter cloth to separate solids and liquids. The following elaborates on the application principle of the plate-and-frame filter press in solid-liquid separation.
The plate-and-frame filter press is primarily composed of plates and frames, filter cloth, a hydraulic system, an electric control system, etc. Its working principle can be summarized into three steps: feeding, filtration, and discharging.
First, the plate-and-frame filter press pumps the material to be separated into the filter chamber via a feed pump. During the feeding process, solid particles in the material are retained on the surface of the filter cloth, while the liquid permeates through the filter cloth into the interior of the filter chamber.
Subsequently, the hydraulic system of the filter press exerts pressure on the plates and frames, causing the filter cloth to adhere tightly to their surfaces, thereby intercepting solid particles. Under pressure, solid particles in the liquid are retained by the filter cloth, achieving solid-liquid separation. The hydraulic system can also maintain or release pressure as needed to ensure a stable filtration effect.
Upon completion of filtration, the electric control system activates the hydraulic system to loosen the plates and frames. A scraper then removes the solid particles from the filter cloth, completing the separation of solids and liquids. Simultaneously, the filtered liquid is discharged from the filter chamber.
Plate-and-frame filter presses are widely used in solid-liquid separation across industries such as chemical processing, environmental protection, food production, and pharmaceuticals. They are employed in diverse separation tasks, including sludge dewatering, activated carbon recovery, and pulp filtration.
